Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of Adlerian play therapy on aggression and emotion regulation of children with oppositional defiant disorder. The method of the present study was a single-subject design of the multi-baseline (ABA) type. Four fifth grade students with oppositional defiant disorder between the ages of 11 years and 3 months and 12 years and 6 months who were studying in Shahid Mahmoudian Primary School in Tabriz, in the academic year of 1402-1403, based on oppositional defiant disorder Rating Scale were chosen. Students received Adlerian play therapy intervention for 10 sessions individually using a single-subject research design with multiple baselines (ABA). They were followed up three weeks after the intervention. Finally, the data obtained in the baseline, intervention and follow-up stages were analyzed using visual diagram analysis, percentage of all non-overlapping data (PAND), effect size and recovery percentage. The results showed that Adlerian play therapy reduces aggression and increases emotion regulation in children with oppositional defiant disorder.
