The mentalization capacity or the ability to understand the mental state of oneself and others, as well as showing the appropriate reaction to it, can play a significant role in the treatment process and adapting to the changes caused by chronic diseases in life. The aim of this qualitative study is to identify the mentalizing problems of 8-12 years old children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and their parents. Therefore, the lived experiences of 18 children with T1D and 22 of their parents through a semi-structured interview with Child and Adolescent Reflective Functioning Scale (CRFS) and Parent Development Interview (PDI) have been analyzed and classified, using purposive sampling technique until saturation and transcendental or psychological phenomenological approach. The final outcome of this phenomenological study is the extraction of three general themes, including the underlying factors of breakdowns in mentalizing, types of common mentalizing problems, and the consequences of breakdowns in mentalizing. The results of this research and reflection on the mentalization failure cycle model, in addition to facilitating relationships and regulating the emotions of children with T1D and their parents, can significantly contribute to the design of a mentalizing problems scale, developing psychological interventions, and improving medical services.

Abstract Communication and interaction with others are effective components of social life and mental health. Focusing on preventive and therapeutic approaches can strengthen communication and ultimately, human health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of comprehensive religious psychotherapy on strengthening the interpersonal relationship between high school students and their parents. The research method is semi-experimental with pre-test and post-test design and control group. The statistical population of this research consisted of all second grade high school female students in Tehran city in the academic year of 1396-97. From the target population at first, with screening tests 100 students were randomly selected and among those with the highest difficulty, 24 were randomly selected and divided into two groups of 12 (experimental and control). The experimental group was trained for 8 sessions based on comprehensive religious-based psychotherapy protocol. Data from pre-test and post-test were obtained using the SCL90 test (Derogatis and et al., 1973) and the RFCP test (Richie and Fitz Patrick, 1990). The findings showed that comprehensive religious education is effective in enhancing interpersonal communication between parents and their adolescent girls (P= 0.001). Considering the lack of treatment considerations- teaching religious therapies in relation to adolescents by many therapists, this study points to the need for comprehensive psychotherapy education.
