Abstract

Currently, the increasing number of divorces and marital dissatisfaction in various societies, especially in Iran, indicates the need to pay serious attention to premarital counseling as an effective solution to reduce social harms and strengthen the foundation of the familyAccordingly. This study was conducted using thematic analysis. In this study, 15 experts and activists in the field of family counseling were selected using purposive sampling.
Open The findings of this study show that the requirements for premarital counseling in Iran can be categorized into three main themes:1-Clarifying marriage criteria: Examining the couple's individual and cultural expectations, beliefs, and values to reduce future misunderstandings.2Clarifying marriage criteria: Examining the couple's individual and cultural expectations, beliefs, and values to reduce future misunderstandings.3-Raising awareness among couples: Providing essential education about marital rights, family responsibilities, and life skillsThe results of this study emphasize that premarital counseling is not only a preventive measure, but also a social necessity to reduce divorce rates and increase satisfaction with married lifeHowever, numerous structural, cultural, and implementation challenges, including the lack of unified standards, traditional resistance, and limited access to specialized services, have presented the premarital counseling process with serious obstaclesThis research suggests that by developing well-documented educational programs, extensive cultural awareness, and support from policy-making institutions, an effective step can be taken in institutionalizing premarital counseling in Iran.
