Several factors can affect the level of death anxiety. Some studies have shown the role of emotional intelligence and religious orientation in death anxiety. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and religious orientation with death anxiety. The statistical population of the study consisted of all male retired male employees of Khuzestan Steel Company. 300 of them were selected by simple random sampling method. All participants completed emotional intelligence and religious orientation questionnaire and death anxiety scale. Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression were used for analyzing the data at alpha level of 0.01. The findings showed that emotional intelligence and religious orientation have a negative and significant negative relationship with death anxiety. Also, the results of stepwise regression analysis showed that three variables of internal religious orientation, excitement assessment and excitement setting prediction variables predicted death anxiety and, in total, predictive variables were 33.6% of They explain the variance of death anxiety. The results of this study showed that, considering the age at which retired people are located, increasing the emotional intelligence of individuals and increasing religious beliefs and spiritual health of individuals can reduce the level of anxiety in the death of the elderly. Using spirituality can be a coping strategy for retired people.

In the research literature, there were evidences for prevalence of death anxiety among older adults. No research has focused on this topic so far. Therefore the purpose of this study was to decrease the death anxiety among older adults using logo therapy. This was a semi-experimental study using control group and test group. 20 subjects were selected randomly from among the older adults residing at Uremia older adult center. They were randomly divided into test and control groups and the death anxiety scale pre-test was taken. Then, 10 logo therapy sessions were conducted for the test group. The control group had no intervention session. The same test was taken in both groups as post-test and one month later, as follow-up. The data were collected using Analysis of Covariance. The results showed that death anxiety in the test group was significantly lower than that of the control group in both post-test and follow-up stages. Group logo therapy decreased death anxiety in older adults suffering from death anxiety and the finding can be discussed in terms of treatment of death anxiety
